Resources and technology
Our school uses modern technology and digital learning tools. Our resources help students learn, create and stay connected. As a NSW public school, we have access to shared programs and tools available to all schools in the state.
Classrooms
Our classrooms at South Creek School are bright and comfortable spaces thoughtfully designed to support students with unique needs. Each room is equipped with sensory play equipment, kitchenettes, and ensuites, providing a safe and nurturing environment. To enhance communication, all classrooms feature CommBoxes, visuals, visual timetables, and classroom iPads equipped with assistive communication technology, helping every child express their needs and wants effectively.
Technology
At South Creek School, we use technology every day to help students learn and communicate. Our classrooms have CommBoxes for interactive and interest-based activities, and each class has iPads with special communication tools to support every child. We also use apps to help students improve their reading, writing, maths, and other important skills, making learning fun and accessible for everyone.
Library
Our library at South Creek School is a cosy, friendly, and welcoming space where students feel safe and comfortable. It focuses on building literacy and communication skills in a fun and engaging way. Students use switch devices to share their feelings about stories and express their own ideas. They also consolidate and practise their Auslan skills in the library, helping them develop important communication abilities. Visiting the library each week helps students learn valuable transition skills, work together with other classes, and develop important social skills.
Playground
Our playground at South Creek School is full of sensory-based play equipment designed to engage and support our students. It includes a sandpit, swings, tunnels, slides, trampolines, and outdoor music exploration tools. There’s also a bike track and equipment to help develop gross motor skills, such as balance beams, stepping stones made from logs, and a safe climbing wall. For quiet or calm-down time, students can relax in cosy teepees, and there is a small oval perfect for ball games and outdoor fun.
Living Skills
Our Living Skills Room at South Creek School is a practical space designed to help students develop important everyday skills. It features a kitchen where students learn how to prepare food safely, basic cooking skills, cleaning up, and setting the table. The room also includes a bed to teach students how to make beds, as well as a washer, dryer, and clothesline to practise laundry skills, supporting their independence and confidence.
Hall
Our hall is a versatile space where students participate in many extracurricular activities such as dancing, assemblies, and music therapy. It is also used by parents and the community for information sessions and workshops. Additionally, the hall serves as a special place to celebrate success and host important events like end-of-year awards assemblies, morning teas, and other celebrations.
Kitchen Garden
Our Kitchen Garden at South Creek School is a sensory-rich space where students explore different smells, textures, and tastes through a variety of plants. They practise science skills by learning how plants grow and how to care for them. Students have lessons here every week with our farm assistant. Working collaboratively in the kitchen garden helps promote language development and social interaction between students. They also harvest the plants they grow to feed the animals on our farm and to prepare food in the kitchen using their own fresh produce.
Animal Care
As an agricultural school, South Creek School offers a hands-on animal care program that students love. They learn what animals need to stay healthy while caring for ponies, rabbits, guinea pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, and a turkey. Through this program, students develop empathy and learn to work together. It also provides valuable opportunities for them to practise moving safely around different settings within the school.
